Tips for celebrating National Tutoring Week. Why not plan a special tutor recognition and appreciation ceremony? Invite school administrators, parents, or local officials to visit your tutorial center. Host a table with information and “goodies” in a well trafficked area of your campus. Lobby locally or statewide for official proclamations. Supply your tutors with mini “survival kits” including snacks, school mugs and logo items, and motivational quotes. Decorate your center with colorful flowers, balloons or photos of your tutors in action. Place an ad or article in the campus newspaper. Post messages to staff and ask them to send Thank You notes to the center and/or your tutors. Have a party! National Tutoring Week Contest. Please send your photos and stories (PDF files, please) to the NTA to be eligible for our annual NT Week Contest. This year, we will award the program that has the most original and the greatest number of NT Week activities on site. How much you spend will not be considered! Be creative and support tutors every day during your celebration. This registration does not include pre- , post- or extra conference events. One free double or triple room at the beautiful Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay will be included from Sunday night to Wednesday night of the conference (total of four nights). The winning program will also present one concurrent session at the conference. Finally, the winning program will be featured on the cover of the highly anticipated 2. The National Tutoring Association is proud to announce several projects that have been brought to fruition over the summer that will assist in training our tutors and academic coaches toward certification, thereby assisting these teams to better serve their student populations. We are excited to announce that our webinar training team, led by our Communications Director, Pete Conrad, has achieved our goal of finding an efficient and cost effective way of closed- captioning our eight main tutor and academic coach training webinars. Once again, the NTA has taken the lead in providing a service that no other association provides. The first webinars with closed- captioning are our newly- revised Basic Academic and Advanced Coaching sessions facilitated by our own National Training Director, Ishmael Brown. Closed captions, or subtitles, are not only for the hearing impaired. Viewers with ESL benefit by being able to follow along with the closed captioned speech. Closed captioning can also help to maintain concentration and focus on the material, which translates into higher engagement. Finally, closed captions are great for those sound- intensive and - sensitive offices and libraries. Soon, all of the NTA's webinars will be offered with closed captioning! A Quick News Update. The NTA is proud to announce a new, business- oriented webinar, Private Practitioner Certification Workshop, facilitated by NTA board member, Stephanie Dunaieff, for those of you interested in opening your own tutoring business. View all of our new webinars here! In addition, we will soon produce webinar “shorts” on selected topics. These webinars will be shorter in length and less expensive than the main training webinars and will rotate topics quarterly so that certified tutors and coaches will have an inexpensive and interesting way to earn continuing education units for certification renewal. Trainer certification has been overhauled so that a trainer may now be certified as a tutor trainer, an academic coach trainer, or both. The NTA Private Practitioner Tutor Certification Program is now in place and the webinar training for that certification will start this month. The workbook is already completed. In addition, our Mentor Certification requirements are complete, as is the new mentor training workbook. Our initial goal was 1. The 2. 2nd Semi- Annual NTA Conference Survey Results. We are listening. We asked the attendees of the 2. NTA Conference about their experiences with the conference. The survey questions rated the quality of the accommodations, food, venue, sessions, and keynote speakers. The results we received were overwhelmingly positive, and they reinforced the importance and necessity of this conference. We're still sorting through the surveys, but we have come to several conclusions; the 2. NTA Professional Development Conference will feature: Expansion of opportunities to present.
